The occupational health and safety framework, built on hazard identification, risk control and — the part that separates it from what came before — genuine worker participation and consultation. It replaced OHSAS 18001 and is written to integrate with ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 rather than sit beside them.

The American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care program in its two certifiable forms: RCMS on its own, and RC14001, which folds Responsible Care into the ISO 14001 structure so a single system and a single audit satisfy both. It reaches beyond environmental management into process safety, site security, distribution and product stewardship.

The process-based quality framework — risk-based thinking, defined process interactions, consistent conformity of product and service, and the customer satisfaction loop that closes it. The next edition publishes on 16 September 2026, the first substantive revision since 2015.

What implementation buys youFewer escapes and less rework, a common language with the customers who audit you, and the foundation the sector schemes are built on — IATF 16949, AS9100, ISO 13485 all assume a working ISO 9001 system underneath.

The automotive sector scheme, applied together with ISO 9001 rather than instead of it. It adds customer-specific requirements, product safety, embedded software controls and the core tools — APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC — as certifiable requirements rather than as good practice.

What implementation buys youIt is the condition of doing business as a direct automotive supplier, and it pushes defect prevention upstream into process design where it is cheap, rather than into inspection where it is not.
